The story of Baldwin Pergolas
starts with its owner, Max Baldwin.
Max Baldwin has twenty years
experience as a self-employed wood worker. He started
to work with wood as a child aboard the family's
wooden sailboat and at home in a 200 year old home,
both of which needed plenty of work.
At age sixteen Max studied
computer science and furniture design. Instead of
a college education Max formed the Baldwin Furniture
Company in 1989 and worked hands on designing and
building a complete line of outdoor furniture.

In 1997 Max built his first
pergola at his home in Middletown. Then another and
another. While building the forth pergola on his house
he realized that other people may want similar pergolas
in an easy to assemble kit form. Baldwin Pergolas
was founded in 2000.
"The pergolas are a personal
passion of mine. I study them... I thoughly enjoy designing
and building pergolas. This business has made my dreams come
true. This is my art and I look forward to doing this for the
rest of my life!" exclaims Max Baldwin while he leans on
his CNC router in his Middletown Connecticut pergola factory.
In the spring of 2002, Baldwin Lawn
Furniture began designing and building cedar pergolas and custom
pergola draperies, transforming his company into Baldwin Lawn
Furniture and Pergolas. Today, Max Baldwin, his family, and
the Baldwin team enjoy the opportunity to design and craft awe-inspiring
Pergolas for customers all across America and Canada.
In 2004, Baldwin Pergolas shipped
dozens of pergolas all over the US while the furniture company
expanded to serve dealers in Germany and Spain.
