Use the site plan and a tape measure to get the exact location of each column. Align the steel plate so it's square to the house. Use a 3/8 concrete drilling bit to mark the concrete by drilling through the holes in the steel plate.

You only need to drill a little bit to leave noticable marks in the concrete. Move the column and put the 5/8 concrete drilling bit into your drill.

Drill each hole two and a half inches deep. It's a good idea to put tape on the drill bit as a depth gauge.

Remove the concrete dust from the holes with either a blow gun or a vacuum. Tap the lag shilds down into the holes. Set them a 1/4" below the surface.

Put the column in place and tighten four lag screws into the shields. If you need to plumb the column, you can put shims under the steel plate, then tighten the lag again.

Lower the cap down over the column.

Set the cap on.

You have mounted a wooden column!
